Everything electrical, done properly.
Fifteen years on the tools and there's not much I haven't come across. Below is the bulk of what I do — homes, rentals and small commercial sites across Porirua, Wellington, the Hutt and Kapiti. If your job isn't on the list, ring me anyway. I'll tell you straight whether it's something I can help with.

Lighting, heating and appliance installs
New light fittings, a heat pump before winter, a charger for the new EV — this is the bread and butter. Everything gets installed to standard, tested before I leave, and the mess goes in the van with me.
LED downlights & indoor lighting
LEDs last longer and draw less power than the halogens they replace, which is why almost everyone's switching. I'll help you work out the right fittings, colour temperature and layout for the room rather than just putting holes in your ceiling where the old ones were.
Outdoor lighting
Good outdoor lighting does two jobs — it makes the place look decent at night, and it makes it a lot less appealing to anyone poking around. I'll walk the property with you and work out what actually needs lighting.
Heat pumps
A heat pump heats and cools, which makes it about the most sensible bit of kit you can put in a Wellington house. New units, retrofits into existing homes, and check-overs for units that aren't performing like they used to.
Hot water
Hot water cylinders involve safety devices that exist for a very good reason — scalding and electrocution both being on the list. Not a DIY job. New installs, replacements, or a check-over if yours is behaving oddly.
EV chargers
More Wellington driveways have an EV in them every year. I'll install a proper home charging point, sized to your switchboard and your car, and check the supply can actually handle it before we start.
Appliances & extraction
Range hoods, ovens, cooktops, bathroom extractors — anything that needs hard-wiring rather than a plug.
Switchboard upgrades and repairs
Your switchboard's job is to get power safely around the house and cut it off the moment something goes wrong. Older boards — particularly the ceramic fuse boards still sitting in a lot of Wellington homes — can't do the second part reliably.
An upgrade to a modern RCD-protected board means the power cuts in milliseconds if there's a fault, instead of waiting for a fuse wire to melt. Safer for the family, and most insurers take a friendlier view of the premium.
I also handle boards that just need more capacity — you've added a heat pump, an EV charger and a new kitchen, and the board's out of room.
- Fuse board to RCD switchboard upgrades
- Capacity upgrades for renovations and new appliances
- Sub-boards for sleepouts, garages and workshops
- Three-phase installations
- Switchboard maintenance and safety assessments
Wiring
Wiring carries power from the board out to every switch, socket, light and appliance in the building. When it's done badly or left too long without attention, it stops being an inconvenience and starts being a fire risk.
I do everything from a single new circuit through to renovations, additions, pre-purchase work and older homes that have never been touched. All of it installed to current standards, tested, and certified.
- Single circuits and additions
- Renovations and extensions
- Kitchen and bathroom rewiring
- Sleepouts, garages and outbuildings
- Pre-purchase wiring inspections
Kitchens and bathrooms
Kitchens and bathrooms are the trickiest rooms in the house to rewire — water, plumbing and electricity all competing for the same space, and a lot of it hidden behind cabinetry once it's done. It needs planning up front rather than improvising on the day.
I work alongside builders, kitchen installers and plumbers regularly, so the sequencing doesn't turn into a problem. Tell me what you're planning and I'll tell you what's involved.
Fault finding and repairs
A breaker that keeps tripping, a dead socket, lights that flicker for no obvious reason — these are the jobs people put up with for months. Most of them take me under an hour to track down, and a few of them are genuinely dangerous to ignore.
I'll find the fault properly rather than guessing, fix it, and show you what it was so you know whether it's likely to happen again. No pulling the house apart to find something that turns out to be one bad connection.
- Tripping breakers and RCDs
- Dead sockets and circuits
- Flickering or failing lights
- Burning smells, scorch marks, buzzing
- Insurance and claim-related work
- Same-day response where I can
Property maintenance for landlords and managers
If you're managing rentals, you want an electrician who turns up when he says he will, deals with tenants politely, and sends you an invoice that makes sense. That's most of the job.
I handle regular electrical checks and the steady drip of small repairs that keep properties compliant and tenants safe — plus the bigger stuff when a switchboard or a run of wiring finally gives up.
- Rental property electrical checks
- Ongoing repairs and small works
- Switchboard and wiring condition reports
- Appliance replacement and hard-wiring
- Body corporate and common-area work
- Scheduled preventative maintenance
Small business and commercial
Shops, cafés and small sites need an electrician who understands that every hour you're shut is money gone. I work around your trading hours where I can, and I'll tell you honestly up front how long something's going to take.
Most of my commercial work is for owner-operators — a café refit, a new run of three-phase for a bit of machinery, or the ongoing testing and maintenance that keeps a site trading. Same person quoting, doing the work and answering the phone afterwards.
- Fit-outs and refurbishments
- Three-phase supply and machinery
- Retail and hospitality lighting
- Signage and display wiring
- Switchboard and distribution work
- Ongoing maintenance and testing
- After-hours and weekend work
Something gone wrong right now?
Electrical faults don't keep office hours. If you've lost power, you can smell burning, or something's sparking, don't wait until Monday and don't try to sort it yourself. I take emergency call-outs 24 hours a day, seven days a week, across Porirua, Wellington, the Hutt and Kapiti.
